Suspension Airbags: A Potential Danger
This brief letter alerts readers to the potentially dangerous situation that can occur with suspension airbags. Suspension airbags are high-pressure devices that reside beneath vehicles and provide shock absorption. The author report a case of a spontaneously-rupturing suspension airbag that resulted in serious facial trauma. The 53-year-old man was attempting to repair the suspension airbag of his heavy goods vehicle when the airbag ruptured. The patient sustained major facial lacerations, a fractured mandible, multiple dentoalveolar fractures, and displacement of his partial denture into the nasopharynx.
