Introduction: Improving Disaster Preparedness and Response Through Practice-Oriented Research
The transportation community is engaged in all-hazards research, developing new systems, processes, and technologies to improve emergency management and homeland security, generating ready-to-use practice tools for responding to incidents that affect the transportation infrastructure--such as tornadoes, earthquakes, traffic accidents, and terrorist attacks. This is a brief introduction to the articles in this issue of TR News which offer a select--but wide-ranging--overview of transportation security, emergency management, and infrastructure protection.
