Management and Prospects of the Croatian Short Sea Shipping Development
This paper considers the complexity of the system of ports and harbors on maritime navigable routes, their elements, and action of the subsystem from the aspect of technology and traffic organization. The aim is to establish the concept of intercoastal navigation development to provide an affordable price of service to all users while not disrupting legal and ecological standards. In compliance with existing facts and results of prior studies of transport systems, port characteristics are examined and the possibility of their reorganization into intercoastal navigation centers (i.e., interfaces of maritime and land transport) is considered. Based on developed predispositions, preconditions, and possibilities, this study provides an overview of related administrative, organizational, and informational levels with exact specifications of the measures and strategic decisions in order to form a model that provides all port system subjects with data on how to establish intercoastal navigation in the Republic of Croatia. The advantages of such a system are also outlined and discussed.
