RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AND SERVICE EXPERIENCE SULZER MEDIUM SPEED DIESEL ENGINES
After a brief presentation of the SULZER medium speed engine program, the specific design features of the AS25/30, Z40/48 and 65/65-engines are discussed, as for example, engine frame, liner, the unconventional valve seat solution of the Z40/48 etc. The characteristics of the rotating piston -- a specific feature of the SULZER medium speed engines -- are discussed in detail. Some 10 years of service experience with over 146 two- and four-stroke engines of Z40/48 types and total running times of over 45 000 hours are stated. Operating conditions, behavior of major engine components and oil consumptions are discussed.
