LIQUID TREATMENT WITH COMMERCIAL CACL2 FOR WINTER ROAD MAINTENANCE
In the introduction the Author describes the evolution of the use of saline substances for winter road maintenance, from the first timed used in 1964, to the significant increase in 1968. The study of the elements which influence the choice between the use of salts and that of saline solutions is described, as well as the reasons which direct the choice towards the utilization of the latter and in particular, those composed of clacium chloride. The properties of the calcium cloride solutions and the technique and equipment necessary for their preparation are also described, as well as the choice of the CaCl2 concentration of the solutions in relation to the type of treatment and to the atmospheric conditions during the winter. After a brief summary of the first national experiences with the utilization of solutions for preventive or maintenance use, particular emphasis is given to the possiblity unique in its kind, of on the spot control of the concentration of the doses dispersed on the road and of the reagents used for this purpose.
