Topics addressed included the scale of climate change, the challenges facing vehicle manufacturers and operators in preparing for the Euro-5 exhaust emissions limits that come into force in 2009, the advantages and disadvantages of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), fuel management, the potential of bioethanol, Scania's bioethanol engines and Volvo's third-generation dimethyl ether (DME) engines for trucks and buses. In the same month, the UK government cut TransportEnergy grants.
