Improving novice driver safety in the City of Wyndham: the approach to implementation and evaluation of 'Fit to Drive'
Young driver safety is a key issue in arrrive alive! the Victorian Government's five-year strategy to reduce deaths and injuries on Victoria's roads. It is also a key issue in the City of Wyndham's Road Safety Strategy and the Wyndham Community Safety Plan. The aim of Fit to Drive is: 1. To challenge and influence the attitudes of young people in relation to the dangers of risk taking behaviours, peer pressure and decision making in a road safety context. 2. To provide knowledge and information in relation to the road safety issues of speed, alcohol/drugs, fatigue and the need for 120 hours driving experience. The program provides an umbrella for activities across three year levels of senior secondary students: 1. Year 10 Students VicRoads Keys Please” session for students and parents. 2. Year 11 Students Half day peer education workshops involving small groups of students working with trained facilitators to consider the consequences of risk taking behaviour and peer pressure. 3. Year 12 Students . Delivery of a RoadSafe Looking After Our Mates session and/or screening of the TAC video Muck up Day. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no.
