THE "MOBILPLAST" TECHNIQUES OF THE JEAN LEFEBVRE GROUP. RANGE OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE BITUMINOUS BINDERS

LES TECHNIQUES "MOBILPLAST" DU GROUPE JEAN LEFEBVRE. GAMME DE LIANTS BITUMINEUX A HAUTES PERFORMANCES

Details are given of a range of bituminous binders developed by the French Mobil Oil and Group J Lefebvre Laboratories. They have an improved performance due to the addition of a copolymer and synthetic resin to the bitumen. Mobilplast binders have an elasticity greater than that of pure bitumen, an excellent adhesion on concrete, metal and road aggregates. They are not susceptible to water and deicing salts and have a very low sensitivity to heat; because of these characteristics, these binders were selected for bridges subjected to great stresses (Saint-Nazaire-Saint-Breven Bridge). Similarly they possess excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength, resistance to fatigue and tracking). Mention is made of a number of applications: "betonplast" (for metal structures with orthotropic slabs, high-inertia reinforced or prestressed concrete pavements for tunnels or engineering structures); "accroplast" with high macroroughness and draining property (elimination of aquaplaning); "microplast" for low-cost maintenance operations; "enduiplast" for surface dressings; "hydroplast" for waterproofing courses (bridges, metal or concrete viaducts). /TRRL/
