Pandrol VIPA-SP track support system for the Leven Bridge in Cumbria, England
The author discusses challenges faced by Pandrol in replacing the steel deck structure of Cumbria, England's Leven Bridge, including very fast-moving tidal flows in the Morecambe Bay. Network Rail decided to replace the deck structure when severe corrosion on the 49-span bridge, which links Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness and carries a double-track railway line, made maintenance no longer economical. Details of Pandrol's VIPA-SP track support system are given.
