After the Storm
This article discusses the ongoing efforts to restore full operations to New Orleans' Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in the wake of damage caused by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. The author notes that commercial service returned to the Airport two weeks after the storm. As of January 2007, 103 daily flights (serving 32 cities) now leave the Airport. Despite the progress, the number of flights represents only 64% of Pre-Katrina daily departures and 77% of Pre-Katrina destinations. The article also discusses pre- and post-Katrina rehabilitation plans and an ongoing campaign called "Music to Your Ears," a project designed to 'extra' clean, maintain and repair the airport. Airlines with operations at New Orleans International include Air Tran Airways, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and U.S. Airways.
