High-Performance Concrete Technology

Some of the bridge construction industry's most experienced suppliers, designers and users of high-performance concrete (HPC) discussed performance specifications for HPC during a recent audioconference. This article provides excerpts from this discussion. The discussion centered on the state of HPC technology and its use in bridges, the need for and development of performance specifications, benefits and cost-effectiveness of materials, and challenges of successful implementation. The participants agreed that simple performance specifications that can easily be used at the local level should be developed in order to ensure quality workmanship.
