Disintegration Characteristics of Red Sandstone and Its Filling Methods for Highway Roadbed and Embankment
Chinese highway section tests, a large-scale simulated experimental test, and laboratory tests were part of a series investigating such red sandstone properties as disintegration characteristics, compositions, and structures. Classification of red sandstone occurred according to its engineering properties in the disintegration tests. Roadbed and embankment filling methods, construction techniques, including associated criteria quality examination and quality control, were developed using understanding of red sandstone properties. Difficult highway construction problem resolution in red sandstone regions using successful application of these techniques has been confirmed, with significant engineering and technological values, as well as considerable potential economical benefits.
