Research on Public Logistics Centre as Tool for Cooperation
This paper focuses on the concept of a logistics center or warehouse and the associated benefits for users. Potential benefits for cooperation with logistics centers include: intermodal benefit, impact on forwarders, Information Technology (IT) solutions, improved supply chain management, cost sharing, economies of scale, joint marketing, and third-party logistics. Potential negative impacts, or bottlenecks, that are discussed include lengthy duration in the planning process, pricing conflicts, competition for land use, and legislative issues. Results of a pilot survey of several logistics companies in Lithuania are presented in an effort to evaluate potential benefits and risks.
