Map of the Month: Canadian Pacific in 1974
This Map of the Month provides a fanciful return to 1974 and a hypothetical trip around the world via Canadian Pacific Rail, Air, and Ship. In those days, Canadian Pacific was called the world’s greatest transportation system. The hypothetical trip begins aboard a Budd Rail Diesel Car in Ottawa and stops in Montreal where travel continues aboard a Douglas DC8 to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam, our 1974 passenger heads to Rotterdam to board one of CPs oil tankers bound for Kuwait, then Japan. From Tokyo, a Boeing 747 carries our passenger to Vancouver, and the voyage finishes with a 2,880-mile train ride back to Montreal. Maps show CP’s Air, Ship, Truck and Rail routes during that decade.
