City, Citizens, Public Transport: What Kind of Modus Vivendi is Possible?
This paper highlights the interdependence that exists between the city, its citizens and public transportation. A city loses vitality without an effective public transportation network, while efficient public transportation requires support in the form of a proactive urban and regional policy. The expectations of citizens in terms of mobility constantly affect what the city and its public transportation system needs to offer. Strong partnerships and new sources of funding are required to revitalize the city, make public transportation efficient and effective, and anticipate citizens' needs and expectations.
