Data Business Plans in Florida
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has developed a management process joining transportation performance measures with a goal-oriented business planning strategy. The FDOT transportation management process is policy driven, supported by data, and systematically evaluates the condition and operation of the state transportation system against goals and objectives. The FDOT has historically tracked the performance of the department through 11 metrics, now consolidated into 5: transportation systems safety; customer and market focus; production performance; transportation system performance; and organizational performance. To manage all the data from the FDOT performance measures, the department has developed the Performance Measures Database. Despite the challenges in the development of the single database, FDOT has successfully integrated the performance measurement and business planning processes.
