Quality Assurance in Geotechnical Explorations and Laboratory Testing
The author reviews the history of quality assurance in geotechnical explorations and laboratory testing during the design and construction of the Interstate Highway System, from the perspective of working for the New York State Department of Transportation. He reviews lessons learned in regard to drilling, sampling, particularly undisturbed sampling, and laboratory testing. He concludes with comments on the current and future challenges facing the geotechnical engineer.
