College Town
The University of Pennsylvania is planning a major expansion that is intended to better connect the university with downtown Philadelphia. This article describes this expansion and its projected impact on the city's economic development. The area to be developed is an industrial site bisected by a highway and two rail lines. The plans for the new campus emphasize bridge connections between the university buildings on the west bank and the new riverside facilities in Philadelphia's center city. Extensive pedestrian facilities should also transform the industrial character of this area.
