Commentary: Road Pricing as a Solution to the Harms of Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion continues to increase nationwide. In major urban areas, the capacity of roadways continues to not keep pace with the number of motorists on them. One solution is congestion, or road, pricing, which charges road users a fee. Public and political acceptance is road pricing's chief obstacle, although the practice has been successful both domestically and internationally. The author comments on the United States' culture of mobility, congestion costs, domestic and international congestion pricing, domestic parking policies and funding, and challenges to road pricing, including its political viability.
