SHOULD THE THIRD RAIL ELECTRIFY THE WORLD'S TRAINS?
The case for third-rail direct-current electrification of even high-speed lines is presented. Efficiency, environmental protection and the compact propulsion possible are cited as reasons for choosing this system over the popular high-voltage alternating current system with catenary distribution.
