Eastern European Review
In this article the author covers, country by country, the growth of air transport in Eastern Europe, a region that has experienced passenger growth of 56 percent between 2002 and 2005. In the Poland, the region’s largest county, the city of Warsaw’s Frederic Chopin Airport is discussed. Prague in the Czech Republic has seen an increase in passengers in its Ruzyne International Airport with the Slovak Republic’s Bratislava-based MR Stefanik Airport having just cancelled plans for privatization. Budapest, Hungary’s Ferihegy International Airport (BUD) is discussed and has similarly seen growth with a 4.26 percent passenger increase between 2005 and 2006 alone. In Bulgaria, Sofia’s international airport has, in addition to the experience of increased passenger loads, recently finished a second terminal. Other airport cities are also covered, including Bucharest in Romania, Zagreb and Dubrovnik in Croatia, Ljubljana in Slovenia, Skopje in Macedonia, and Belgrade in Serbia.
