WAVE FORCES ON A HORIZONTAL CIRCULAR CYLINDER
A horizontal circular cylinder, located near the floor of a two dimensional wave channel, was subjected to a train of gravity waves. The wave height and horizontal and vertical forces on the cylinder due to the incident waves were measured and presented in dimensionless form. Experimental values of the horizontal and vertical dimensionless force coefficients are presented as functions of relative wave height and relative wave length. The dimensionless force coefficients predicted by a modified Morrison's equation are compared with the experimental data. Experimental wave lengths of from two to seventeen feet were investigated.
