First class travel
The latest trends in bus and coach interiors are discussed. Layouts are being adapted to accommodate disabled people and mothers with buggies. Cantilever seats are installed to make the passenger salon feel airier and less cluttered, but they add weight as do ultra-deep side windows. The choice of seat trim needs to meet the type of service. Leather and moquette and their combinations are popular. Coach designers are looking outside the industry for styling ideas. Lighting has a major influence on atmosphere and light emitting diodes are now used. The staircase on buses can be illuminated by using the lights on the upper deck. Muted colours such as discreet blues and greys are in fashion for coach and bus interiors. There is a move towards improved onboard entertainment. Coaches are likely to have onboard toilet cubicles. Actia's Multivox package allows coach operators to create their own tours using Windows compatible software. (A)
