Technology Helps Beat Tighter Engine Emissions Standards
In order to ensure that their new engines meet increasingly stringent emissions standards, especially in the European Union and the United States, manufacturers are turning to innovation. Since internal engine emissions reduction measures are already largely developed, external technologies relating to after-treatment of exhaust gases are being explored. The author discusses innovations in both internal and external technologies, such as multiple fuel-injection, exhaust gas recirculation, particulate filtering, and nitrogen oxide conversion.
