No Booze? You May Lose: Why Drinkers Earn More Money than Nondrinkers
The authors suggest that people who drink alcohol have more/better social capital (i.e. social characteristics that include charisma, skills, Rolodex watch size), which enhances social networking and leads to earning more money at their jobs. They compare self reports of drinkers, abstainers, bar hopping drinkers and bar hopping abstainers and find that drinkers have a higher income than the other three categories examined.
