ITS Have Entered the Second Stage in Japan: Background and Objectives
This article examines the second stage of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), which has come to Japan in the form of car navigation systems, vehicle information and communications systems (VICS), and electronic toll collections (ETC). Also discussed is an introduction and background on ITS in Japan that describes factors in the development of second stage ITS under the 'Smart Mobility for All' goal of Japan's Smartway Project Advisory Committee.
