Understanding Each Other in Intelligent Transport Systems: An Introduction to ITS Terminology

This article discusses new developments in the second edition of the PIARC ITS Handbook (World Road Association-PIARC, 2004), which has been published in English (2005). One major development is the creation of an appendix for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) terminology. The inclusion of the appendix follows one of PIARC's main missions regarding road and road transportation, to facilitate technological exchanges. To this end, the appendix is designed to allow users to improve the sharing of information about ITS applications, along with individual projects, experiences, and achievements in the ITS field.
