INSPECTOR'S MANUAL

This 250-page manual with over 500 photographs and drawings consists of ten basic sections and is intended to bring a measure of standardization to the loading of closed cars. It is an important facet of the railroad industry's new and unified approach to improved handling of shipments. The first section deals with freight handling and inspection as well as the goals and tools of the inspector. The subsequent sections deal with rail equipment, packaging, loading, bracing, load movement, materials handling, pinpointing of damage, condition of lading, and uniform reports of damage. A special section covers household applicances. The loose-leaf manual outlines methods which should give shippers and railroads information on damage so they can take proper corrective action.
