Two pedals saves you money!

A test conducted by Motor Transport in conjunction with MAN and Saints Transport found that operating a two-pedal 7.5-ton truck in the urban environment would reduce fuel bills by more than 10%. The benefits of a two-pedal transmission to the driver are recognised, but the financial advantages have been less apparent. In the test, two MAN TFL 7.5-tonne trucks, one with THL TipMatic two-pedal transmission, were compared over a 77-mile urban route around London, UK. Both trucks were freighted to 7.1 tonnes and had similar mileages. The drivers swapped vehicles half way round the route. The author describes his experience as one of the drivers during the test. The manual TGL used 5.67 gallons and the automated TGL used 5.06 gallons of fuel.
