The details of the new Highways Agency requirements for lighting designers in the UK are contained in the document HD46-05 Quality Management Systems for Highway Design. The general requirement for lighting designers is that they should embrace the eight quality management principles identified in ISO 9000:2000. The attributes that designers should display are listed under the following headings: customer focus, leadership, involvement of people, process approach, systems approach to management, continual improvement, and mutual supplier relationships. The ways in which designers should demonstrate competence are described.
