Second chance
This article looks at the development and market potential of a new electric vehicle in the US. Manufacturer Tesla Motors has produced the two-seater Roadster model which can compete on performance with many of the highest-powered petrol-driven sports cars. The project has been in development for three and a half years and features a double-wishbone suspension under a lightweight body, with the battery pack using lithium-ion technology: full charging takes up to eight hours. A phased launch will target high-traffic, environmentally sensitive markets in urban areas, and a five-seater saloon car is being planned as a future product.
