OIL SLICK REMOTE SENSING

A spill from a sunken tanker was located off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, using Buffalo photographic aircraft, which was equipped with two aerial cameras and a thermal-IR scanner. The spill was detected about 80 miles from the reported position of the sinking of the stern section. The report describes the process used in locating the spill.
