Type Casting: The Right Person is Needed to Lead Industry Into Next Major Funding Bill
This article reports on a Roads & Bridges magazine survey of readers to determine what effect they thought the change in leadership in Washington, D.C., might have on transportation spending amounts and priorities. Other questions dealt with their opinions on the 23 ballot measures that will raise almost $40 billion in new revenue for transportation construction. One big change would be if the House, now controlled by Democrats, would require “pay-as-you-go” funding, where all increases would have to be matched by spending reductions or new revenues. Funding levels of SAFETEA-LU were considered above average by only 4 percent of the respondents, reflecting overall disappointment in the measure. Additional observations are offered from industry economists.
