Hardstandings benefit from natural appearance
Grasscel, an innovative cellular grass/concrete paving system from RPC for use on hardened access ways and car parks, is described. Grasscel provides hardstanding whilst maintaining a natural grass appearance. The resulting surface area consists of approximately 75% grass and 25% concrete. Grasscel comprises concrete blocks with cavities and raised platforms. The cavities are filled with soil into which grass is sown. There are two specifications: Grasscel 100 for general parking areas and Grasscel 125 for use on heavy-duty access areas. Grasscel is installed with butt-tight joints on a 20mm layer of sharp sand overlaying a well-compacted granular sub-base. Case studies of the use of Grasscel in the UK are presented.
