Looking forward to safety

This article considers new technology in truck safety. Active cruise control and a lane departure warning system have been recent developments from manufacturer Mercedes, with an emergency braking system in preparation to prevent or reduce the severity of head-to-tail collisions on the road. The Lane Assistant warning system sounds an alarm if the truck starts to move out of lane without the indicators being used. A new version controls the steering wheel to pull the truck back into lane and alert the driver. Hybrid-fuel vehicles using both electric and diesel power are being tested in use. Other driver-assistance products include the Predictive Curve Assistant which uses navigational mapping data to define a safe vehicle speed for the shape of a road bend; and reversing and parking systems.
