The 'People Box' vs. the 'Car Box'

This article delineates two development concepts of people-boxes and car-boxes; the first type is a category for any building that is primarily designed for human use such as an office building, sports venue, shopping center, or airport, with the second encompassing any building primarily for parking such as a parking garage, deck, ramp, or facility. These two types of structures also have a highly specific relationship. This is due to the primary transportation method of choice being by personal vehicle, which thereby requires the access of car-boxes by people-boxes in urban and metropolitan areas. Concerns for parking facilities include the number of levels and inter-floor travel by drivers, which is typically accomplished by means of sloped floors and the like. The article concludes with the author advocating for the necessity of parking experts in the construction of mixed-use facilities.
