Switch Stands, Switch Machines
In this article, the author gives a brief synopsis of a number of commercially available switch stands and switch machines used in railroading. Surveying products that are both currently available, or innovations that are due to be released shortly, the article presents, on a company by company basis, reviews of these types of switch stands and machines: wayside, in-tie, yard, pavement stands, switching systems that are easily integrated into wireless control networks, as well as a machine that uses an electro-hydraulic switching method instead of mechanical parts such as gears, cranks, clutches, or chains.
