CLASS AM 6/6 DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES OF THE SWISS FEDERAL RAILWAYS
Although the network of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is fully electrified, diesel locomotives are needed as a thermal operational reserve to assure train haulage in the event of a power failure on the overhead line, or in times of crisis. Normally, however, they are employed for heavy hump marhsalling duties. The present article shows how both tasks can be accomplished by a single type of locomotive, by using static convertors.
