SERVICE LIFE OF MARINE ELECTRIC LIGHTING EQUIPMENT
The results are presented of an estimate of the service life of electric lighting equipment installed in a Polish-owned tanker of Japanese construction. They are based on one year's (9000 hours) operation of the ship. Average times between failures, and the number of switchings per failure, have been calculated. The figures show that the fluorescent lighting and the discharge lighting (mercury) equipment in the ship fully met Polish standards requirements. The calculated life for fluorescent lighting was some 10 times longer than the standard of 2000 hours, and for discharge lighting it was 22 times longer than the standard of 6000 hours. On the other hand, incandescent lighting did not meet the requirement: the calculated life fell short by some 40% of the standard of 1000 hours. Order from: BSRA as No. 49,062.
