What’s New in Transportation and Growth Management: The Florida Experience

This paper describes how the 2005 session of the Florida Legislature made some significant changes to the state’s growth management statutes. The state’s long history of grappling with transportation and growth management issues continues to evolve as approximately 1,000 people per day move into the state. The State of Florida now has over twenty years of experience since the implementation of its landmark Growth Management Act. Over that time period, the understanding of the interaction of transportation and land use has changed considerably. This paper reviews the historical development of the concept of transportation concurrency, as it was administered in the State of Florida and it also reviews where the concept appears to be heading.
