A Study on Traffic Capacity at the ETC Lane on the Expressway Tollgate
A system of automatic payment transaction without stopping at the expressway tollgate is called Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in Japan as well as EZ-PASS in the United States and EFC in Europe. Although the number of ETC users has been increasing well, the service level to ETC users begins to lower because most expressway tollgates have only an exclusive lane for ETC users. This study shows the directionality of determination of the traffic capacity at the lane which is considered the service level by applying the queuing theory.
