An evidence-based review of public attitudes to climate change and transport behaviour - final report
This publication reviews UK information on public attitudes to climate change and travel behaviour. It was found that there has been no consistent study on the links between these factors. The review used literature from environmental psychology, public understanding of science, travel behaviour research, marketing and sociology. The link between knowledge and awareness of climate change on one hand and travel behaviour at the individual level is considered to be weak. Transport policies that either set out to change attitude or aim to change behaviour first without necessarily changing attitudes are both considered necessary. A need to engage the public in issues of transport and climate change in new ways, rather than using a top down approach. Nine areas for further research were identified.
