ASSESSMENT OF GLARE IN INTERIORS

After reviewing briefly early attempts to quantify glare, the author describes various glare formulae proposed by workers in several countries. The glare evaluation system devised by Sollner is discussed in some detail and the results of the mathematical comparison of several such systems described leading to a comparison of visual comfort probability (vcp) and glare (g) seals. A recent proposal einhorn for the determination of the glare number associated with individual sources under specific conditions is described and the need for a simplified system, preferably emphasised. One such simplified system is that adopted in incorporating the concept of luminance limitation. Australian standard as1680, interior lighting and the visual environment. /Author/TRRL/
