Austroads road safety engineering toolkit
A challenge that Austroads member agencies and local governments face is ensuring that decisions regarding countermeasures are sound and will result in the most cost effective safety outcome. While there is a large pool of general knowledge captured in best practice references, a significant focus of this work is on higher cost solutions. In contrast, there is no stand-alone road environment engineering safety toolkit that succinctly outlines low cost, high return counter-measures that could be easily implemented to address safety deficiencies. Further, knowledge of recent successes is often not effectively shared. The "Road Safety Engineering Toolkit" will provide practitioners with easy access to information that will assist them identify deficiencies and implement high return and generally lower cost measures that will improve road safety. The paper summarises the work undertaken to date and provides details of the proto-type toolkit, including functionality, the user experience and sample information.
