Triumph for Delhi
The city of Delhi, India has begun building a new underground metro system which will consist of 245km of new rails and will connect the Old and New parts of the city. However, the project has undergone considerable problems. For one, India's developing infrastructure has made it difficult and slow to get construction materials to the worksite. Also many of Delhi's old wells have been built over and go unmarked, so that it is hazardous when digging crews happen upon them. Lastly, India's dramatic climate shifts have made it difficult to keep the worksites clear of mud and debris. Despite these setbacks, crews managed to finish the Chawri Bazar section of the tunnel on schedule in September 2004.
