Exploiting Knowledge About Future Demands for Real-Time Vehicle Dispatching

This paper addresses, within the field of dynamic vehicle routing/dispatching, the issue of how to use information about future events to improve decisionmaking. It is intended to be studied in a real-time setting based on probabilistic knowledge about future request arrivals to better manage a vehicle fleet. The new strategy introduces dummy customers (representing forecasted requests) in vehicle routes to provide good coverage of the territory. This strategy is assessed through computational experiments conducted in a simulated environment.
