Control of Dust is a Major Must
This article addresses the problem of dust on unpaved roads and possible ways to mitigate the problem. It describes how dust—whether blown off the road by wind, thrown into the air by vehicles, or generated by road construction—causes health hazards as well as deterioration of the road. A number of products aimed at reducing the problem are described, and new regulations that would lead to tighter particle definitions are also discussed. The article describes water and chemical treatments and products to control dust, but warns against the use of recycled waste oil. Included is a sidebar listing more than a dozen links to information on dust control, as well as current and future Environmental Protect Agency (EPA) regulations against dust.
