A Study of the Performance of Probe Vehicle Data
Travel time data are one of the most important types of traffic data used in various traffic policies and services. It has been expected that probe vehicle data (PVD) would become more important for collecting travel time data. The shorter the PVD interval is, the more accurate is the travel time provided. However, for practical use, the cost needs to be reduced by decreasing the amounts of collected PVD to ensure travel time accuracy. This paper describes a travel time estimation method which works well even under long interval PVD conditions. The paper focuses on the relationship between the PVD interval and performance, and we evaluate the accuracy of travel times estimated by the method with several PVD intervals conditions using real PVD obtained on urban corridors.
