Real-time Analysis Cuts The Risk Of Derailment

Track geometry is generally measured with a track-recording car. That car tracks parameters such as track gauge, surface, alignment, cross-level and twist, and those measurements are compared with benchmark standards. However, recent research shows that measuring dynamic interactions between the vehicle and the track is a better indicator of potential derailment, but those measurements must be done in real time. A recently developed a dynamic simulation model was used in recent tests to identify a number of locations where poor dynamic responses could be dangerous.
