The Italian Job

This article discusses a unique transportation body in Italy, the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI), which both aids its members with training, insurance, and recovery services but also forms a public policy organization that collects taxes. The organization is based around its 107 district clubs, although such a structure has been beneficial in terms of serving the company’s clients with context-sensitivity. The company also jointly publishes the magazine L’Automobile with relevant sector information. Many regional chapters aid local authorities with planning and studies support for urban traffic and parking plans. The ACI also collects taxes for the state via its motor vehicle registry system, although the distribution of such funds is ultimately within the hands of the state.
